Is Lingaa similar to Chiranjeevi’s Indra?

Is Lingaa similar to Chiranjeevi’s Indra?

Is Superstar Rajinikanth’s ‘Lingaa’ loosely based on Chiranjeevi’s iconic hit ‘Indra’? This is a question that is bound to make people sit up and take notice and it is also the basis of a fresh new case that has been filed against the movie ‘Lingaa’ in Chennai, by Balaji Studios Private Limited.

The complaint alleges that director K.S. Ravi Kumar plagiarised the story of ‘Indra’ for the movie. The complaint further states that Balaji Studios Private Limited is the sole owner of the Tamil remake rights of the film ‘Indra’ and therefore, the Studio has requested the Court to stay the release of the movie ‘Lingaa’, in order to protect their intellectual property.

However, K.S. Ravi Kumar, the director of ‘Lingaa’, stated that the movie ‘Lingaa’ is in no way similar to ‘Indra’. “The story is based on a struggle around a dam and anyone in India is entitled to write stories around dams”, he said.

The Court has refused to grant a stay to Balaji Studios Private Limited and the movie will release as planned on the 12th. The next hearing in this matter has been scheduled for 12th December by the Court.

‘Lingaa’ has been mired in controversies and legal battles for a while now and it remains to be seen if Rajinikanth’s latest action entertainer can overcome all these issues to emerge unscathed at the Box Office.
