Review : Loukyam – One Time Watch
Gopichand and Srivas have teamed up for the family entertainer ‘Loukyam’. Rakul Preet Singh will be seen as the heroine in this movie while Anoop Rubens composed the music. The film has released today in the states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana and this is our review.
Story :
Venky (Played by Gopichand) is a daring and dashing youngster who crosses the path of a gangster named Babji (Sampath Raj). Babji is quite notorious and he operates from the city of Warangal. Venky helps Babji’s sister in her attempt to elope and he himself moves to Hyderabad, to stay away from Babji.
In Hyderabad, Venky happens to meet the charming Chandrakala (Played by Rakul Preet Singh). After a brief period of courtship, Chandrakala decides to marry Venky and this is when all hell breaks loose. Chandrakala is the sister of Babji and Venky is now in a big fix.
What can he do now? Venky must use all of his resourcefulness and talent to solve this problem and how he manages to do that is what the story of Loukyam is all about.
Plus Points :
- Gopichand looks very handsome in this movie and his stylish costumes stand out. He has given an energetic and well rounded performance in this film.
- The good entertainment levels in the film save it from becoming a washout. Brahmanandam, 30 Years Industry Prithvi and Chandra Mohan will keep you entertained with their antics. Dialogue writer Sreedhar Sipana and writers Kona Venkat and Gopi Mohan deserve credit here.
- Rakul Preet Singh is a welcome addition to the film and she has very good screen presence. With her combination of glamour and decent acting talent, she is one actress to watch out for in the days to come.
Minus Points :
- The bane of commercial Telugu entertainers – ‘routine but safe formula story’, rears its ugly head yet again. The film is a rehashed version of ‘Dhee’, ‘Dookudu’, ‘Kandireega’, ‘Ready’ etc. The same tactic of using Brahmanandam and some comedians to hoodwink the villains is showcased in this movie.
- Actors like Mukesh Rishi, Rahul Dev and Raghu Babu do not get characters worthy of their talent. They look and feel out of place in the film
- The length of the film becomes painfully apparent after a while and the predictable nature of narration does not help matters either.
The finer Things :
Cinematography is good and the songs have been shot well. Anoop Rubens has provided decent background music for the movie but songs could have been better as virtually no number stands out. Editing by S.R. Shekkhar is good and helps the film significantly.
Srivas scores passing marks as a director. He has successfully managed to camouflage glaring errors in screenplay and narration with the help of some formulaic comedy.
Verdict :
‘Loukyam’ is a predictable but reasonably entertaining family drama. If you don’t mind a stale story and formulaic narration, you may catch this film this weekend for a few laughs, courtesy of Brahmanandam, Chandra Mohan and Prithvi.
Critic’s Rating – 3.0 /5
BOX OFFICE POTENTIAL : MEDIUM
