Review : Oka Laila Kosam – OK Watch
Naga Chaitanya and Pooja Hegde have teamed up for the romantic entertainer, ‘Oka Laila Kosam’. The movie has been directed by Vijay Kumar Konda and Annapurna Studios is the production house behind the film. The film has been positioned as a feel good romantic entertainer and this is our review
Story :
Karthik (played by Naga Chaitanya) is a kind hearted, freedom loving rich kid. He comes across a beautiful girl named Nandana (Played by Pooja Hegde) one day and falls for her good looks as well as kind nature.
He desperately tries to track her down and finally succeeds, only to realise that Nandana has a very bad impression about him. Meanwhile, Karthik’s father (Suman) decides to get him married in order induce some seriousness in life.
A desperate Karthik decides to confront Nandana and reveal his feelings. But he is not prepared for what happens next. Can Karthik convince Nandana to marry him? That is what the story of ‘Oka Laila Kosam’ is all about.
Plus Points :
- Naga Chaitanya is completely at ease in this role, which is kind of tailor made for him. He looks stylish in the film and his costumes are quite trendy, just like his father. However, Chaitanya should perhaps carry a little stubble and have longer hair.
- The film gradually picks up pace after a slow start and the scenes that precede the intermission are quite good. Ali and Posani Krishna Murali bring some much needed comic relief with their performances. Some romantic scenes between Chaitanya and Pooja Hegde have been executed well.
- Pooja Hegde makes a good first impression but she needs a lot more polish before she can become a serious contender in the crowded Telugu market. Suman and Sayaji Shinde go about their performances with precision
Minus Points :
- There are a few totally unnecessary characters in the film, like the one essayed by Vizag Prasad for example. There are some totally irrelevant subplots as well, which neither help the main story nor provide entertainment. A capable actress like Rohini should not be wasted in insignificant roles like the one in this film.
- The pre-climax and climax scenes are very superficial and perhaps even a little foolish. Will any youngster get involved in a fake murder case to interrupt his own wedding? Is there no other way to cancel a wedding without letting the blame fall on the girl?
- The scenes that show friction between Chaitanya and Pooja Hegde have been written very poorly. The conflict points are quite silly and do not have the necessary emotional depth to strike a chord with viewers.
The finer Things :
After a strong show with ‘Gunde Jaari Gallanthayyindhe’, Vijay Kumar Konda disappoints us with a very mediocre ‘Oka Laila Kosam’. The film could have benefited from some extra help in the screenplay department.
Editing is very bad. We have been told that some scenes were chopped off mercilessly to speed up things, explaining the jerky scene transitions in a few areas. But even then, the editor should have taken care in minimising the glaringly apparent butchery.
Background music from Anoop Rubens is very plain and a little monotonous. The same can be said for his songs as well.
Verdict :
‘Oka Laila Kosam’ is a film that aims to be a feel good romantic entertainer like ‘Gunde Jaari Gallanthayyindhe’. But it only ends up as an ok watch. A tighter screenplay and better climax would have helped the film in a big way. If you have lots of free time this weekend, you may give it a shot.
Critic’s Rating – 3 /5
BOX OFFICE POTENTIAL : Medium
